Coupling description BoWex® FLE-PAC couplings are torsionally rigid curved-tooth flange couplings in the material combination nylon/steel as a reinforced design. The application ranges of BoWex® FLE-PAC are higher performance diesel engine drives in combination with hydraulic pumps. The axial plug-in allows for an easy assembly with no need for additional alignment tools. Another benefit is the very short mounting length of the coupling. The flange of the BoWex® FLE-PAC coupling consists of a compound of steel and carbon fibre-reinforced nylon. Subject to the reinforced carbon fibre the nylon has better properties of wear resulting in a considerably longer service life. The nylon flange is manufactured as an integral part of the thin steel plate, which results in a very compact solution to the drive train. The hub element of the coupling with an external curved toothing is made from steel. Bores are usually available as taper or spline toothing. Spline hubs with standard clamping are often used, but other clampings common in the industry are available, too.
General description
The material combination between hub from steel and flange toothing from carbon fibre-reinfored nylon allows for a longer, maintenance-free permanent operation thanks to further optimised coefficients of friction in the spline combination.
Behavior of friction and wear
The smooth and hard surface (crystalline structure) and the high thermal stability and resistance to lubricants, fuels, hydraulic fluids, dissolvents, etc. make polyamide an ideal material for components stressed by sliding, particularly for the coupling production. While any metallic materials tend to "corrode" in case of dry running, slide combinations with polyamide and steel are operative without any lubrication and maintenance.
